Miramar
Situated in the center and north of San Diego County, nestled between the 805 and 15 freeways, is the charming community of Miramar. Miramar is home to a variety of businesses including several home improvement and furniture stores, car dealerships, the highly noted Miramar College, and the annual “Blue Angels Air Show,” which is presented on the Marine Air Base in Miramar. The highly coveted annual air show originally started when the U.S. Navy hosted its TOPGUN flying school here in Miramar. To the north of Miramar is the large suburb of Mira Mesa.
Miramar is also conveniently located nearby California’s Riverside and Orange Counties, as well as metropolitan Los Angeles – further increasing the number of employment and recreational opportunities available to those who live and work in the community.
The name Miramar is translated in Spanish to mean “view of the sea.” The community boasts a growing population of over 25,000 residents thanks to its steady commercial culture.
Miramar is home to the United States Marine Corps Air Station, and is known for grounding the City of San Diego in its commercial roots and strong military history. Today, a number of Marines live and work in Miramar, contributing to the economic vitality of the area. Miramar is a flourishing business center, as well as a major thoroughfare between San Diego and all parts of North County. There are ample educational opportunities as well, thanks to Miramar College. Miramar College is a 125-acre campus serving more than 12,000 students throughout the county. A significant majority of recent construction in Miramar is attributed to the school and includes the development of a high-tech computer business center, library, digital media lab, classrooms for San Diego State University, and more. Plans for a 32-acre athletic complex for the college are expected to further enhance Miramar’s prosperous economy.
Many of those who relocate to Miramar are attracted to the area for its convenient freeway access, large scale retail stores, and one-stop shopping. There are also a large number of entertainment centers, restaurants, parks and cultural amenities that contribute to the local economy.
